MCR Compliance
Your Arizona transaction privilege tax (TPT) and sales and use tax returns are prepared, filed, and confirmed on a calendar you can actually see. Every filing ties back to the same sales ledger your books close on, so your returns and financial statements tell the same story.
Because “the state sent me something” is a terrible reminder system.
What you receive
Deadlines handled and exposure reduced.
Includes: Arizona TPT and sales and use tax filings; recurring obligations.
Fit, scope, and what you receive
Who it is for
Businesses with recurring filing obligations and no one whose job it is to track them. Arizona TPT at the state, county, and city level, and use tax on out-of-state purchases. Sales and use tax filings in any other state where you have a filing requirement.
What you receive
A filing calendar, prepared and submitted returns, a reconciliation of each return to your books, and confirmation when each obligation is met.
How it is scoped
Recurring and scope-based. Jurisdictions, filing frequency, and business classifications are documented before the first filing. A new city, a new location, or a new line of business changes the scope, and we tell you before it changes the fee.
Works with
MCR Books. We recommend keeping TPT filing and the monthly close in one engagement. One accountable owner then holds the sales ledger, the filings, and the notices that follow them.
- From $150 per month
- for a monthly filer, one license, one location, up to two business classes
- 1
- return filed with the Arizona Department of Revenue covers state, county, and city tax
Sales tax (Arizona TPT) filing: from $150 per month
How Arizona TPT works
Your business owes Arizona sales tax on its own receipts, so we reconcile it to your books before every filing. Arizona calls its sales tax the transaction privilege tax (TPT). One return filed with the Arizona Department of Revenue covers state, county, and city tax.
$150 covers a monthly filer. Quarterly filers pay the same $150 per return on their own schedule; annual filers pay $200 per year.
Scope
Each filing includes
- Gross receipts reconciled to your books (MCR Books clients) or to your monthly sales report (other clients), due to us by the 10th.
- Business class codes, region codes, and deduction codes applied; exempt sales checked against your documentation.
- State, county, and city tax computed and the return (Form TPT-EZ or TPT-2) filed electronically on AZTaxes.gov before the last-business-day deadline. A $0 return is filed for any period with no activity.
- Payment scheduled from your account with your written authorization. We never hold your funds.
- A filing confirmation after each return showing tax by jurisdiction, the payment date, and any open item.
- Use tax reported when you provide out-of-state purchase detail.
- Filing-frequency monitoring: when your liability crosses a threshold, we recommend the change and file the request (Form 10193).
- Annual TPT license renewal, due January 1 and delinquent after the last business day of January, including city renewal fees you authorize.
- Response to ADOR notices on filings we prepared.
- An annual opportunity review in writing: at least one tax, process, or reporting improvement we recommend for next year.
Not included
- ADOR audits and desk reviews (quoted)
- Nexus or taxability studies (quoted)
- Income tax withholding returns
- Payroll tax returns
By filing frequency
| Filing | Price |
|---|---|
| Monthly filer (annual liability above $8,000) | $150 per month |
| Quarterly filer ($2,000–$8,000) | $150 per return, same scope and renewal included |
| Annual filer (under $2,000) | $200 per year, including renewal and a mid-year check that the frequency still fits |
| Seasonal filer (operating only part of the year, as registered with ADOR) | $150 per active month |
A quarterly return costs the same as a monthly one because the reconciliation is the work, not the calendar.
What changes the fee
| Situation | Price |
|---|---|
| Additional location or city | +$35 per location per filing |
| More than two business classes at a location | Quoted |
| Transient lodging (short-term rental) TPT, including city and county rates | Quoted, from $150 per month. Marketplace bookings (Airbnb, VRBO) are collected and remitted by the platform; we confirm whether you have direct bookings that require your own filing before quoting. |
| Prime contracting classification, exemption-certificate management (Form 5005), or MRRA determinations | +$50 per filing; we confirm fit first |
| New license (Arizona Joint Tax Application, Form JT-1), including business class determination, filing-frequency estimate, and city licenses | $250 one-time |
| Amended TPT return for a period we filed, when the change is not our error | $100 per period. Our error: no charge. |
| Prior periods not filed | $100 per period, quoted with cleanup |
| Sales tax in other states | Quoted per state, from $100 per filing |
Timing and deadlines
The statutory due date is the 20th of the month after the period. An electronic return is timely if submitted on AZTaxes.gov before 5:00 p.m. Arizona time on the last business day of the month; we schedule payment at least three business days before that so it posts on time. Businesses with $500 or more of annual liability must file electronically, so we file every return electronically. Data received after the 10th is filed within three business days of receipt when the deadline allows. Every upload and question is acknowledged within one business day.
Other recurring obligations
1099 season: preparation and e-filing, with recipient copies delivered
Forms 1099-NEC for 2026 payments are due to recipients and the IRS by Monday, February 1, 2027. Forms 1099-MISC are due to recipients by February 1 and to the IRS by March 31, 2027 when e-filed. The reporting threshold for 2026 payments is $2,000 per payee. Ten or more information returns of any type must be e-filed, so we e-file all of them. Included at Control and Advisory for up to 10 recipients.
1099 data deadline
You collect Forms W-9 from vendors; we send you the request template in November. MCR Books clients: we pull payee totals from your books. Other clients: send your payee list with totals and W-9s by Friday, January 15, 2027 for on-time filing. After January 15 we file as capacity allows; we tell you the same day whether February 1 is still reachable.
Estimated payment support (every MCR return)
Every MCR return includes safe-harbor vouchers (Forms 1040-ES and 140ES) when payments are required. The federal safe harbor is 100% of last year's tax, or 110% if your adjusted gross income was over $150,000. The Arizona safe harbor is 100% of last year's tax or 90% of this year's. Arizona requires estimated payments when Arizona gross income exceeded $75,000 ($150,000 married filing jointly) last year and is expected to again this year. The final 2026 installment is due Friday, January 15, 2027. 2027 installments are due April 15, June 15, and September 15, 2027, and January 18, 2028 (federal; Arizona expected to match). We give you the amount, the date, and the payment link (IRS Direct Pay or EFTPS; AZTaxes.gov). We do not make income tax payments for you. Control clients receive reminders with safe-harbor amounts 10 days before each date. Advisory clients receive quarterly projections from actual results with revised amounts.
Mid-year recalculation
One projection from year-to-date figures, revised vouchers, written summary.
Quarterly estimate service (households not on Books)
Four recalculations from your year-to-date figures, revised vouchers each quarter, and a reminder 10 days before each date.
Maricopa County business personal property statement (DOR Form 82520, due April 1)
A calendar item at Control; prepared on request.
Payroll tax returns (Forms 941, 940, W-2/W-3, Arizona A1-QRT, A1-R, DES UC-018) are referred to a payroll provider. We reconcile the provider's reports and review year-end W-2s to the books. Arizona-formed LLCs and corporations no longer file beneficial ownership reports.
